What are penis rings?

Is the penis ring a sexual aid or an adult toy? It has a number of synonyms, erectile dysfunction ring, constriction ring, and cock ring. For this discussion I will use penis ring .

What is a penis ring? It is a ring that is worn at the base of the penis, it restricts the blood flow out of the penis, while allowing blood to flow in. This keeps blood in the penis and maintains an erection. This can change the way erections feel, how long they last, and what orgasm and ejaculation feel like.

The ring can be used by itself in a man who can obtain an erection but has trouble maintaining the erection, or combined with a penis pump in a man who is unable to get an erection. It may be used with erectile dysfunction medication. It also may help a male who loses an erection due to performance anxiety.

Rings are made of rubber, silicon, plastic and other materials. Some come with handles to make it easier to put on and take off. Flexible and adjustable rings are recommended. Some come with accessories for vibration which is pleasurable for both the wearer and the partner. Lubrication is helpful to reduce pinching while placing or removing it.

Unlike most erectile dysfunction treatments, foreplay is enhanced with rings. Your partner can place the ring. There is no stopping foreplay for injecting meds or waiting for meds to take effect.

Is there any risk with using penis rings? If you feel pain or discomfort while using a ring, remove it immediately. The ring may effect the stability of the penis at the time of insertion, this is easily managed with a guiding hand. It should not be in place for longer than thirty minutes or the penis can be damaged by hypoxia, low blood oxygen. Don’t fall asleep with the ring in place!

The take home message: Penis rings create stronger, longer-lasting erections. They can be an effective for all men, and may help men 50 and older maintain an erection. They are safe, noninvasive, and inexpensive.
